May 2024

What did we do in May?

Well for a short period of time, it looked like Summer was on its way and we enjoyed the first couple of weeks of the month in the gardens, planting sunflowers, filing pots and getting our fingers green.

The weather soon ensured we looked like fools when autumn appeared to make a return leaving us stranded in Gravesend after a morning’s walk to the prom when the weather apps promised us no rain! Luckily we always have the Hollies transport vehicles to rescue us!

But the lack of sunshine aside, we enjoyed a busy month. We celebrated FOUR birthdays:
Marion, Gwen, Rose & Jean are enjoyed a birthday treat at The Hollies and with family and friends. We attended a fantastic simply singing event in New Ash Green, we had an Avon pamper session, Pizza takeaway night and took in our first big trips of the year with a group off on the River Medway Kingfisher Boat – we have two more of these trips lined up  this year to ensure all residents who want to, can attend.

We enjoyed an afternoon tea, facemasks and foot masks, and welcomed Nicola – our new catering lead  – to the family.

As we look into June we have D-day Celebrations, live singers, beach trips and much more on site entertainment.

It would also be great if the sun could make an appearance so we could make use of our lovely gardens.

Other exciting news in our Garden Party 2024 date has been launched, please join us on 31st August 2024. Please see our poster for further information.

April 2024

Well what did we get up to over the month of April at The Hollies?

We started the month strong after a busy Easter Weekend by attending Simply Singing at NAG carers cafe. Always a fab morning out were we can meet lots of friends and enjoy a cup of tea, a cake and normally a raffle!

We enjoyed an easter egg hunt for our staff’s families, the weather held off well and all the kids enjoyed finding many eggs that were hidden in the gardens and lounge areas of the home. Of course we enjoyed many new games within the home invented by Jo, who knew there was so many uses for a pool noodle?

We hosted an Arts & Crafts morning and decorated spring themed tote bags, had a visit from Rob T who provided us with an afternoon of brilliant entertainment, spring sprung in the dining room.

Rossi our pat dog came back for more cuddles from our residents (and staff) and our first Quiz night since 2020 was a fantastic success raising over £250 for our residents fund. We got green fingers and have been planting sunflowers, herbs and many flowers in anticipation for a lovely summer in our garden and our downstairs floor renovations began.

All in all a busy fun month was had by all, and as we look forward to nicer weather and more days out we are looking forward to sharing with you soon.

26th February 2024

Last week we was so lucky to be joined by Sarah Starkey who performed her Valentines Day set for us on Monday afternoon, Sarah was brilliant and really got all the residents involved. We all had a fab time and are looking forward to welcoming Sarah again in the not so distant future.

We had a visit from Rossi the pat dog on Tuesday, Rossi is a retired greyhound who comes to us on a regular basis and spends time with the residents. He often does not want to leave!

Lots of trips planned for this week with the battle of the care home cup continuing with our trip to Fairby Grange today, and a trip to the NAG carers cafe for their sing a long event!

12th February 2024

Last week we celebrated a special lady’s birthday (Happy Birthday Stella) and got a visit from not one but two babies! Our on-site Physiotherapist Stacey brought in twins Eddie and Ernie last week and we all enjoyed having lovely cuddles.

On Wednesday we hosted our first takeaway night of 2024, the winning takeaway was Pizza, and big thanks to Pizza Hut whom we decided to order from who brought us a lovely meal. We had around 20 residents spending the evening in the coffee shop with Jo. It was lovely to see so many enjoying themselves.

5th February 2024

As we go into February, with hopefully lighter mornings and longer evenings slowly making their way back to us we enjoyed a busy week.

We enjoyed lots of gaming sessions, played an exciting game of “Real or Fake” where we had to guess what headlines from newspapers were real and what did Jo make up – which was very funny. We welcomed the return of Stacey Watts, our visiting Physio. Stacey has been visiting The Hollies for many years and her return from maternity leave after the birth of her twin boys was very exciting.

Quizzer of the month was announced and this went to Marian, she enjoys all the quizzes Jo offers and is super smart! A BIG well done from us all.

What did we get up to last week at The Jolly Hollies?

We had a fairly busy week at The Hollies, lots of indoor activities took place including Bingo, a visit from The Baptist Church and a hot debate on what takeaway we would be having this Friday, general consensus was Pizza is the firm favourite!

A group of staff undertook an excellent training session with ex fire fighter Daren. We now have 15 newly trained Fire Marshalls to ensure that we always have a dedicated trained Fire Marshall on site.

What starts on Monday should carry through to Friday; that is, enthusiasm.
