Considering moving into a residential care home can be a daunting experience for both a potential resident and their families. There are always questions and we have listed a few of the most asked.
Do you provide respite care?
Respite care is available if we have the room, unfortunately we do not keep a dedicated respite room.
What if I move in and don’t like it?
As confident as we are that you will love your new home, if you were not happy with your new accommodation, we would do our best to either help you settle or indeed help you look for a new solution to your needs.
Do I have to sign a contract?
We have standard terms and conditions that are sent to you or your next of kin on admission, but these do not tie you into any length of time of having to stay with us.
What happens if my finances deplete whilst I live at The Hollies?
We have a contract with local authorities which mean that in this situation you would be offered a financial assessment, and terms would be negotiated between The Hollies and the local authority based on your financial situation.
Can I pre-book to move in on a certain date?
We often have a large waiting list of clients looking to move in with us, however if you are offered a placement and wish to accept but delay the move for up to two weeks, we ask for a holding deposit. If you wish to accept a placement but delay a move for longer than two weeks, then full fees would become payable to secure your room.
What happens with my medication and Doctors surgery?
On admission we would relocate you to our designated Doctors surgery. All our residents are at the same surgery for continuity reasons.
Your medication would be administered by our trained team – unless you made the choice that you wish to self-medicate – and be held in our secure medication room. We would also take over ordering your medication.
What happens when I have an appointment?
You are free to attend any appointments how you chose. We offer patient transport if required for you and a relative or can provide a carer escort to attend these appointments with you.
Are there any restrictions on when my family and friends can visit?
We are a very social and busy home and love to have visitors. We do not restrict these however do ask that mealtimes aren’t interrupted for the wellbeing of all residents.
We also request visits take place outside the main lounge in spaces such as conservatories, the coffee shop, gardens and bedrooms.
We also love to have people join us for events such as singers and entertainment, meet us for trips and join us for meals. Meals should be pre booked 24 hours in advance.
Can I bring a pet?
As much as we love animals, we do not allow residents to bring them as full-time residents.
However, domestic pets are more than welcome to visit!
Does my next of kin have to take my laundry?
All our laundry is done on site by our dedicated laundry assistants. Most items that are removed on one day are back in your room clean and dry the following morning. We ask clothes to be labels and can provide these labels if required.
Can I go out?
Of course, we ask you to let us know when you are leaving the premises but there are no limits on what you do, if it is deemed safe. In the past residents have left the home to go on cruises, attend weddings for overnight stays and stay with relatives over special periods.
